Meet Malinda Bilbrey

Malinda earned a BA in Psychology from California State University, and MA in Psychology from Chapman University, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is currently a registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern by the Board of Behavioral Science #IMF 71309. Malinda is currently being supervised by the Licensed Psychologist Albert Knapp, Psy. D., BCBA-D (PSY 25873).

Malinda was interested in becoming a clinician early in her graduate program when she saw families struggling with real family crises due to having a child with a developmental disability. This lead to a 10 year career helping families in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I have held various roles in ABA such as a Behavioral Interventionist, Lead Behavioral Interventionist and a Program Manager for various ABA companies. I have vast experience working with parents one on one to teach them ABA principles so they can be effective in minimizing behavioral challenges with their child in their home, so they can function better as a whole family unit.

Malinda has a passion and interest for helping families, individuals, couples, teens, and children who need support with mental health disorders as well. This has lead me to pursue a career as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I hope to someday go into private practice and continue my work as a licensed Marriage Family Therapist to provide therapy for those struggling with crisis in their lives and to specialize in working with individuals and families who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder or families who have a child on the Autism spectrum.

Malinda comes to AKA with experience in Play Therapy, CBT, Family Systems and Solution Focus methodologies. She works to help others process, minimize crisis and stress in their lives while alleviating the symptoms for depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. She has previous experience providing therapy to adults, teens ,families and couples involved in domestic violence situations or in serious family crisis.

Malinda is certified in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Domestic Violence, and a member of California Association of Marriage Family Therapy (CAMFT).
