Meet Dr. Michelle White
Dr. Michelle White received her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles in Clinical Psychology. Her doctoral research examined the effects of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder among adult survivors of same gender childhood sexual abuse. Her other research interest includes exploring impairments in children’s emotional and social development as a consequence of early trauma exposure.
Dr. White has four years of experience working as a school based mental health care provider and two years in community mental health in offering individual and group psychotherapy, consultation support and psychological assessment services for children and adolescents. Within these settings, she received training in providing trauma-sensitive clinical services within a psychodynamic theoretical framework that draws from several theoretical models including: object relations, attachment theory, social justice, and inter subjective models.
With regard to her clinical training, Dr. White completed her pre-doctoral internship at Oakes Children’s Center (OCC) in San Francisco. Through her work at OCC, Michelle practiced as an on-site intern psychologist working within the intensive outpatient program, the Family Engagement Training program as well as in Partnership with San Francisco Unified School District program and within the Outpatient Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinic. Dr. White’s training involved working with children who have experienced significant life adversities leading to impaired functioning in different domains of emotional and social development. Michelle provided individual and group therapy as well as psychological assessments for children for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes. She worked with children and adolescents diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
Dr. White has experience in utilizing play therapy, complex trauma work, crisis support and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in working towards supporting her clients and their families. Additionally, Dr. White has experience in family work in addressing complex issues that influences child development and behavior, in helping her families implement supportive behavioral interventions with their children.
Dr. White joins Albert Knapp & Associates as a Post Doctoral Psychological Assistant under the supervision of Albert Knapp, Psy.D., BCBA-D a Clinical Psychologist (PSY 25873) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral.
